The Best Summer Read Alouds for Kids + How to Make a Seasonal Book Display

Note: This blog post includes affiliate links and gifted products.

Does it feel like summer where you are?! This shelf full of books is giving me major summer vibes.

Here you can see books on gardens, bugs, boats, bikes, birds, sunshine, popsicles, forts, and more.

All of my favorite summer titles are available on Bookshop and on Amazon (click the links to shop my lists).

Want to create your own seasonal book display? Here are a few tips:

  1. USE YOUR LIBRARY! You do NOT need to buy books to make your own display, although you certainly can.

  2. Keep your book theme broad so you can include a wide variety of books for your little to explore.

  3. Display titles on front-facing shelves, standing up on standard shelves, or in a special basket.

  4. Use items you already have in the home for your display! I like to include...

    • A themed place to read! Here we are using a small tent my mom got at a garage sale several years back, along with our Lovevery Organic Nap Mat, which doubles nicely as a sleeping bag!

    • An activity or two! Here we have a beach mat set up with our Miniland Mystery Castle stacking bucket/cups and our Pinkies Up Picnic Set from The Enthusiast Play Kit from Lovevery.

  5. Let your display evolve over time! Ours has already changed a good deal as books and items have moved throughout our home and yard. The best displays are ones that are regularly interacted with and enjoyed!!

You can check out some of my other themed shelves here and here!

Let me know your thoughts in the comments. I'd love to hear your favorite summer books and if you've ever tried making a seasonal book display!
